We have a couple of sections in the magazine like, dating advice from a
womans perspective, fashion do's and don't s, poems and a whole bunch
of other stuff. It was kind of hard but, we almost finished with it.
this was a good experience, and i never thought i would be making a
magazine, and about fashion, that was a big thing to me cause i want to
go to college for fashion to be a fashion designer.

project is entertaining people by dancing, singing, rapping, and spoken
word. The reason we decided to do these projects is because we want to
entertain the people. Also because it shows the talents that we have
and how we can all work together. |

ABOUT iCAMP
The iCAMP is a media-arts & technology community-based digital
storytelling program creating opportunities for youth to become leaders
of change. Our goal is to offer paid apprenticeships training youth to
use information and communications technologies for self- expression,
peacemaking in community and social justice. In short, to become
self-sustaining information brokers. Our Freedom Media Salon (first
held in West Town on August 8 2008) is being held in more neighborhoods
across the city of Chicago (and beyond, like in Berkeley, CA),
connecting community educators, professional media-makers, organizers
& aspiring/established artists to build with youth (and our
mentors), reflecting, sharing and discussing local independently
produced media.

SCHOOLS/COLLEGES
Our digital ethnographers
and media reporters are active year-round out of the NTRC computer labs
at Northwest Tower Lab and Homan Square. During the summer, the writers
meet 5 days a week as part of the iCAMP Summer Apprenticeship and get
paid to write, edit and publish the iSWAGG webzine. Each new edition
consists of editorials, reviews, interviews, original poetry and a
mixtape produced by the youth themselves.
In addition to publishing the iSwagg webzine, the writing crew
also host/podcast a community open mic event intended to serve as a
public forum to discuss issues.
This Freedom
Media Salon is the combined effort of several
Chicago
performers, media artists, educators, community activists, students,
residents and other groups & community-based organizations who
appreciate the importance of independently produced media and diverse
forms of cultural and community expression.
Contact John Lester by email at valdingy@gmail.com
phone (312) 375 5215
to set up a collaboration or an encounter with the iCAMP crew. Our
youth/mentors do presentations and workshops on creative writing,
spoken word, podcasting and digital publishing.
