1- Introduction

- The World -
Purpose
If we understand our environment, it can help
us make better choices. How does our environment
impact the choices that we make? Cities can
be hard, fast, concrete jungles. On the other
hand, rainforests are dense, warm, wet forests.
They are havens for millions of plants and
animals. How are we, as residents in one of
America's largest metropolitan centers, connected
to the lives and cycles that make up the rainforest?
Where are tropical rainforests located? What
characteristics do their inhabitants share?
This rainforest unit will help you explore
such questions, as well as raise and pursue
some of your own. As you work through the
assigned tasks and readings, ask yourself
many questions about the ecology of the rainforest
compared to your own self ecology. What are
the elements of your life cycles (time, hobbies,
people, interests. etc)? How are they related?
How are you influenced by these?
The goal of this unit is to become familiar
with general world geography and gain basic
life skills by understanding the composition
of tropical rainforests (strata, animals,
etc).
Each of you will need to have one or more
visuals to show during your presentation.
This is where you can really get creative!
You may try one or more of the following ideas:
